Our own heads
Collaborative interdisciplinary performance being developed with Carrie Foulkes in response to 'Four Changes' (1969), a text written by poet and environmentalist Gary Snyder. It is a short work that examines the crisis of relationship between humans and the natural world and posits four key changes to address these. Fundamental to Snyder’s text is the importance of making changes in 'our own heads' in order to reorient ourselves.
We are exploring and building on our readings of this text, creating sculptures, gestures, video pieces and concepts that weave together to produce an installed environment, a site for a live performance. Through ongoing conversations, experimental performance sessions, and a recent intensive week of devising on the beaches and landscapes of Jersey in a residency at ArtHouse Jersey, 'Our Own Heads' represents our research-led response to 'Four Changes'.
